The first St. Andrew's cross Army of Northern Virginia battle flags were made by the Cary family for Generals Beauregard, Van Dorn and Johnston. They were approximately 30" square, with a 3" yellow/gold fringe. The twelve stars were gilt. The originals were made out of silk. If you want an estimate for one in silk, I can obtain it. Cotton/cotton bunting replica price is $$350 (the stars are hand-painted with gold acrylic).
Early silk ANV battleflag. This one is a replica of the flag of the 16th Mississippi Regt. Has yellow border with blue pole sleeve. Price in cotton bunting: $325. If you want an estimate of one made in silk, let me know.
- I have not made the early cotton bunting pattern ANV - just have had no orders. The flag is a St. Andrews cross with a 0.5" orange border, 12 stars, with no trim (fimbration) on the blue cross. Price is $300.

I have finally been able to make a 1st bunting ANV! This flag has 13 stars on an 8" wide blue cross. The alignment of the stars is purposefully altered every other star. The border is 1.5" orange flannel. Price: $350 (I have to dye the flannel border).

2nd bunting pattern, ANV. Approximately 48" x 48", orange flannel border, white heading with 3 sewn eyelets. This flag, a replica of the 18th Georgia Reg't. is in the possession of a direct descendant of Gen. Lee. Price: $350 (I have to dye the flannel).

2nd bunting pattern, ANV. This version, the 5th Florida Reg't., had an appliqued unit designation on the upper quadrant. The picture on the left is the original; the one on the right our replica. Price: $350 .

3rd bunting pattern, ANV. Approximately 48" x 48", white border, white heading with 3 sewn eyelets. Most of these had no markings. Some Virginia unit flags were marked with white lettering, as this one, of the 57th Reg't. Others were marked as some of the samples below. Price without lettering: $300. Add $50 for this limited lettering.

3rd bunting pattern. Another way of painting unit designations was to letter in yellow above and below the middle star. Battle honours were painted in dark blue or black. This flag, of the 42nd Miss., has one dark blue battle honour on the upper quadrant: "Gettysburg." Price: $300.

6th bunting pattern. All told, there were eight different versions of the ANV flag issued to the troops. This flag, of the 21st Georgia Reg't., had a narrower cross. Price: $300.

The 2nd National flag made by the Richmond Clothing Department for headquarters flags had a canton constructed like the battle flags. The 0.5" fimbration was a white cotton tape. Replica of a HQ sized flag (4' x 6') is $345.

How can we consider the Army of Northern Virginia without thought of General Lee's headquarters flag. I make it the same size as the original (48.5" x 79") out of cotton and cotton bunting. I include, unless requested otherwise, the unique hoist/heading, with numerous sewn eyelets. Price: $200.
Be sure to see our Gallery of First National flag variations, like this one. First Nationals are generally less expensive than ANV's by the way! They start at $80.
